If you're having problems with your boiler, it might be due to low boiler pressure. If you've discovered that your heating system is less efficient or that your pressure gauge has slipped into the red, you'll need to top up your boiler pressure.
Signs that your boiler's pressure is too low
The first indicator of a low-pressure boiler is that your heating or hot water system is malfunctioning. Check the water pressure indicator on the front of your boiler to be sure. This might be a hydraulic dial or it could display on the digital screen. The gauge should ideally read between 1 and 1.5. However, if it is less than 1 bar, your boiler pressure is too low and has to be re-pressurised.
How to check your boiler's pressure
The first step in monitoring your boiler's pressure is to open the front panel and look at the pressure gauge. If the metre reads less than one, you will need to re-pressurize your boiler to restore it to the safe level of between one and 1.5. The pressure in your boiler might drop below one for a variety of causes, but the most frequent is a small hole that has appeared in the piping that links your central heating system. This problem should not reoccur after your pressure is restored; however, if you detect a pressure decrease below 1 in the next week, we recommend that you contact one of our engineers for an emergency boiler repair.
What causes a boiler's pressure to drop?
Your Worcester boiler is losing pressure for one of two causes. To begin, leaks in the system can cause a decrease in water pressure, so inspect your pipes, radiators, and boiler for any damp areas. Similarly, bleeding your radiators might result in a loss of boiler pressure, so be careful to re-pressurize your boiler afterwards.
